COVID-19 and Mental Health

Fear, anxiety, isolation, stress, loneliness, burnout, depression, insecurity and disengagement are just some of the mental health concerns of the global population as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.1 Fear of contracting the virus, feelings of isolation during lockdown, anxiety concerning loved ones and burnout related to upended working situations have been experienced by millions of people worldwide since the pandemic began in late 2019.2

Cigna’s latest research paper, COVID-19 and Mental Health: The Post-Pandemic Panorama, discusses the varied effects of the pandemic on the mental health of people around the globe. The paper also reviews the importance of assessing and treating those that are suffering as a result of financial concerns, caregiving responsibilities, bereavement and more. Similar to mitigating of the spread of the COVID-19 virus itself, supporting the psychological wellness of the world will require a global, united effort.
